## How to read it

- `overall.state` is #GoFile's own state: `operational`, `degraded` or `outage` refer to #GoFile itself. `external` means an HMRC or Companies House service is impaired while #GoFile is fine. `maintenance` means a published HMRC or #GoFile window is in progress. `unknown` means monitoring is delayed; treat the data as stale.
- `overall.headline` and `overall.message` are the exact customer-facing wording. Quote them rather than paraphrasing severity.
- Component states: `operational`, `degraded`, `outage`, `maintenance`, `unknown`. HMRC components in `degraded` or `outage` mean HMRC's service is failing or slow to confirm; filings are still accepted for processing unless the message says otherwise.
- Counts are buckets (`none`, `some`, `several`, `many`), never exact volumes. Rates are percentages.
- For filing services (Corporation Tax CT600, PAYE RTI): `resolved_share_24h` is the share of filings that reached HMRC in the last 24 hours and have any HMRC result; `waiting_over_2h` is the backlog; `held_unresolved` counts filings left without a final HMRC result (held or ambiguous) and awaiting reconciliation, from the last 7 days; the timing metrics cover only filings that got a result. A filing service is `unknown` while our own result checks are running late: a backlog is then not attributed to HMRC.
- `uptime_pct` is null until a component has seven days of history (`monitoring_since` says when monitoring began).
- Maintenance windows come from HMRC's GOV.UK "service availability and issues" pages and from #GoFile support; `source` says which. Times are ISO 8601 with the UK offset.
- Nothing here identifies a customer or a filing.
